Loading Dock Ramps and Trailer Locks for Warehouses

A safe dock crossing needs two things: a board that bridges the gap to the trailer floor, and a trailer that cannot creep away while a forklift is on that board. This collection covers both.

Choosing a Dockboard

  • Vestil TAS Series — aluminum with steel curbs, rated 15,000 or 20,000 lb, 60" or 72" wide and 36" to 72" long. The code reads capacity, width, length: TAS-20-7248 is 20,000 lb, 72" wide, 48" long.
  • HD Ramps — 20,000 lbs on every size, epoxy grit coat deck and built-in lifting chains. Sizes 36", 48" and 60" long by 63" wide, plus 60" x 72", for 3" to 7" height differences.
  • Bluff — diamond deck aluminum with full-length bolt-on steel curbs. The Model AC is rated 10,000 lb. The 72" x 60" board is rated 20,000 lbs with 69" of usable width.

Size the board by the loaded forklift weight and the height difference between your loading dock and the trailer floor. A longer board spreads that step into a gentler slope.

Vestil Trailer Lock Systems

All five are steel hydraulic units with 22,500 lb per ft draw pull shear strength and a 20" W x 29.25" L x 32.06" H footprint.

  • Hand Pump — manual hydraulic, with polypropylene or aluminum LED light packages.
  • Electric Hydraulic — 115V single phase with a 3/4 HP motor, in three light package options.

Warehouse Dock FAQ

What capacity loading dock plate do I need?

Use the combined weight of the forklift and its heaviest load. Boards here are rated 10,000, 15,000 or 20,000 lbs.

How does a trailer lock attach?

It mounts in front of the dock and engages the trailer's ICC bar. The TL-100-F-S electric model includes a control panel, outdoor traffic light and three signs.
