How the Swing-In Exit Works
Day to day, the Escape™ works like any single hung window. The lower sash slides up for air and locks with a powder-coated die-cast cam lock.
In an emergency, one handle releases the multi-point lock on the swing frame. The whole window — glass, sash and frame — swings into the room on four-bar stainless steel hinges. That leaves the full 23-1/2" x 36" opening clear to climb out.
The same swing opens the window for cleaning. The outside glass is right in front of you, inside the room. No ladder in the window well.
Built for Basement Walls
The exterior frame is 31" wide by 41" high on a 3-1/4" jamb, with a block frame for remodeling or new construction. Frame a wood buck to a 31-1/2" x 41-1/2" rough opening — 1/4" larger than the window on every side.
A continuous triple bulb seal runs around the fixed frame and a Q-Lon compression seal around the sash to keep air and water out. The window was tested to AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S.2-97 at 25 psf design pressure with 0.1 scfm/sq ft air leakage, and passed AAMA 1302.5 forced entry resistance.
