Punch Plate Versus Rungs
A rung ramp gives the tyre a bar to push against every few inches. Between the bars there is nothing, and a tyre packed with clay bridges that gap without ever touching a rung.
Punch plate is a solid sheet perforated all over. Every square inch has an edge on it, so the tread finds something to bite regardless of where it lands or what is stuck in it. The holes let mud, water and snow drop through instead of building up.
The trade is weight — 62 lbs against the 30-odd of a bare rung ramp. It folds to 18 inches wide, which is what makes that weight manageable.
