5 HP 80-Gallon Two-Stage Vertical Air Compressor with USA-Built Tank
A shop air compressor that can't keep up with two impact guns and a paint booth at the same time is the slowest tool in the bay. Buying a single-stage compressor for the price of admission means the motor runs constantly and pressure drops every time someone reaches for the trigger.
The Atlas Air Force AF7 is a 5 HP, two-stage, belt-driven vertical air compressor on an 80-gallon USA-made steel tank, putting out 18.5 CFM at 145 PSI and 14.5 CFM at 175 PSI. It runs on 220 V / single-phase, 30-amp wiring and includes a magnetic starter, so the electric input is controlled the way a commercial compressor should be.
What's Included
- Atlas Air Force AF7 5 HP 80-gallon vertical air compressor
- Two-stage three-cylinder cast-iron pump
- Magnetic starter (controls electric input)
- Set of vibro-isolation pads
- Hands-free tank drain extension
- Finned tank inlet tube (for reduced tank water accumulation)
- Heavy-duty metal belt guard
- 1/2" NPT ball-valve air outlet
Made For
Built for commercial shop bays that need real CFM at real pressure, on a tank big enough that the motor isn't cycling every minute. Not a home-shop hobby unit.
- Independent automotive repair shops
- Body shops running spray guns and DA sanders
- Tire shops with multiple impact wrenches in use simultaneously
- Fleet maintenance facilities
- Industrial and fabrication shops
Features
-
5 HP Low-RPM Motor — Lower RPM means longer motor life and less heat — the compressor isn't redlining every time the pressure switch closes.
-
Two-Stage, Three-Cylinder Cast-Iron Pump — Two low-pressure cylinders feed one high-pressure cylinder, compressing in two stages — this is how 175 PSI is reached efficiently instead of straining a single piston.
-
18.5 CFM at 145 PSI / 14.5 CFM at 175 PSI — Enough delivered air to run two 1" impact guns or a paint booth without the motor running continuously.
-
80-Gallon USA-Made Vertical Tank — A taller footprint than a horizontal 80-gallon tank — frees up wall space and gives the same air storage.
-
Magnetic Starter Included — Controls the electric input so the motor isn't slammed with full-load amps on every restart — protects the motor windings and extends compressor life.
-
Hands-Free Tank Drain Extension — Reach the drain valve from the side of the tank without crawling underneath — daily draining actually gets done.
-
Finned Tank Inlet Tube — Pre-cools the compressed air before it enters the tank, dropping water out of the air stream before it accumulates in the tank bottom.
-
Heavy-Duty Metal Belt Guard — OSHA-style enclosed belt guard, not the open plastic shield found on consumer compressors.
Why a Two-Stage Compressor for a Real Shop
A single-stage compressor compresses atmospheric air to 145 PSI in one piston stroke; a two-stage compressor compresses to a mid-pressure in the first stage, lets the air cool slightly through an intercooler tube, then finishes the compression in a smaller high-pressure cylinder. The result is less heat in the pump, less moisture pushed into the tank, and the ability to run reliably at 175 PSI instead of just 145.
On the AF7, the three cylinders are arranged as two low-pressure and one high-pressure on the same crankshaft. Combined with the 5 HP low-RPM motor, the pump can run an eight-hour shop day without overheating — which is the difference between a compressor that lasts five years and one that lasts twenty.
Built Around a Real USA-Made Tank
The 80-gallon vertical tank is built in the United States — not imported on a sea container with the rest of the compressor. The vertical orientation gives the same 80-gallon air storage as a horizontal 80-gallon tank but cuts the bay floor footprint roughly in half, freeing wall space for a tool board or workbench.
Air output is 1/2" NPT through an included ball valve, the tank drain is extended through a hands-free valve, and the inlet tube is finned to drop water out of the air stream before it reaches the tank. Combined with the included vibro-isolation pads under the feet, the AF7 installs cleanly against a concrete floor without amplifying motor vibration through the shop slab.
The Right Shop Air Compressor for Your Shop
If your shop is using more than one air tool at a time, the Atlas Air Force AF7 — 5 HP, two-stage, 80 gallons, 18.5 CFM at 145 PSI — gives you a real commercial-grade compressor at the entry-level price point in the Atlas Air Force line. The magnetic starter, finned inlet tube, and USA-made tank are commercial features at a home-shop price.
The AF7 arrives in a single crate ready for 220 V single-phase hookup through a 30-amp breaker — the same circuit most welders run on, so no electrical retrofit if a TIG or MIG is already in the bay.
