Choosing a Portable Loading Dock Yard Ramp

A yard ramp replaces a fixed dock for sites that load trailers from the ground. Size it by forklift weight, trailer bed height and the width your forklift needs.

Read the Vestil Model Code

The code gives capacity, width and length. YR-20-8536 is a steel yard ramp rated 20,000 lb, 85" wide and 36' long. SY-257230 is an aluminum/steel ramp rated 25,000 lb, 72" wide and 30' long.

Vestil Yard Ramp Series

  • YR Steel Yard Ramps — 16,000, 20,000, 25,000 or 30,000 lb. 72" to 85" wide, 30' or 36' long, with a grating deck.
  • YRD and YRDS Steel Yard Ramps — 36' long, with a mechanical (-M) or hydraulic (-H) height adjustment, steel casters and 4" safety curbs.
  • SY Aluminum/Steel Yard Ramps — 16,000 to 30,000 lb, 72", 84" or 93" nominal width, 30' or 36' long. Hand pump hydraulic lift, 18" tires, steel bar grating and 4" curbs.

Vestil lists a working height of 45" lowered to 62" raised for its 16,000 lb models. A 16,000 lb, 72" model has 66" of usable width.

HD Ramps Modular Aluminum Yard Ramps

Rated 25,000 or 30,000 lb and made in the USA. The sections lock together without tools, and two people can set one up in under 15 minutes.

  • Deck — EZ Traction punch plate that lets water, mud and snow fall through.
  • Safety — integrated guard rails and a knife-foot ground transition.
  • Fit — adjustable support stand for docks 15" to 32" high, plus a top connection plate and ratchet straps.

Yard Ramp FAQ

What capacity forklift ramp do I need?

Add the forklift's weight to its heaviest load and choose a rating above that total. Vestil ratings run from 16,000 to 30,000 lb.

Is a portable yard ramp OK for box trucks and low docks?

The HD Ramps modular yard ramp is set up for docks from 15" to 32" high and lists box trucks as a use. The 16,000 lb Vestil ramps adjust from 45" to 62" for trailer beds.

Mechanical or hydraulic height adjustment?

Vestil offers YRD and YRDS ramps with either system. The 16,000 lb, 72" x 36' mechanical and hydraulic models both adjust from 45" to 62".

See our dock boards for fixed docks and shipping container ramps for ground-level containers. Access Division is an authorized Vestil and HD Ramps dealer. Contact us or call 855-559-5589 with your trailer height and forklift weight.
